Windows 64 bit is safer

Microsoft claims Windows users running 64-bit versions of the operating system are less likely to get infected by attack code. According to Microsoft’s security team said that 64-bit Windows has some of the lowest reported malware infection rates in the first half of 2009.

According to the Microsoft Malware Protection Center 64-bit malware is still exceedingly rare in the wild. Based on data gleened from Microsoft’s Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRC) the 64-bit version of Windows XP was 48 per cent less likely to be infected than the 32-bit edition during the first half of 2009; PCs running Vista 64-bit, meanwhile, were 35 per cent less likely to be infected than Vista 32-bit.

The blog said that that Windows 7 64-bit is the dominant flavor of that new OS as he touted its security. The blog claims that 64-bit Windows was safer by design than the less-powerful 32-bit version, ticking off such measures as PatchGuard, which makes it more difficult for malware to tamper with the operating system’s kernel.

Windows 7 latest Build 7025 Screenshots with IE8 RC1 – download may leak soon

The official Windows 7 Beta was released by Microsoft with the build version of 6.1.7000.0 (build 7000). This had leaked earlier to Internet via torrents. Before the official beta was released by Microsoft, screenshots of several different builds like build 7004, 7012, 7015 and 7016 of Windows 7 came up on different forums online.

The latest build to show in screenshots is Windows 7 build 7025. Microsoft has not confirmed anything about it yet but this might be true. The screenshots of Windows 7 build 7025 have been posted by a beta tester on Chinese forum. There’s are no conclusive changes in the user interface except some user interface touch ups to Control Panel, Media Player and different versions show up for installation now just like Windows Vista. Hope Microsoft will not confuse its customers like it did with Vista with many version releases.

The most notable thing in the said build 7025 is that Internet Explorer 8 has changed from Beta to Release Candidate 1 version 8.0.7025.0. The said screenshots show that Windows 7 Build 7025 has build version of 7025.0.x86fre.winmain.09120-1850, and is compiled on January 20th, 2009 at 1850 hours. The installed copy of Windows 7 Build 7025 will expire on July 2nd, 2009 too.
